Winter is a season of paradox and hidden gifts. Without death there would be no life, without dormancy no sprouting in the spring. How can the outer cold and translucent light of winter fortify us, offering an opportunity for building resilience? Nature’s lessons offer a mirror for us to reflect on what is dying and dormant in our own lives as well as what nurtures essential resilience. Do you need to step away from the daily rush and demands, the overload of media and information, to acknowledge and honor this mysterious seasonal process going on around and within us?
Please join us for a one-day workshop in my cozy home in the quaint Village of Millbrook in the Mid-Hudson Valley. We will create a “sacred pause” from the busyness of our lives to reflect, recharge, and renew as we invite and listen for the voice of the soul to speak. Using stories from our own journeys, poems, songs, images, seasonal metaphors, movement, and insights from various wisdom traditions, we will create a safe, hospitable space, in both solitude and community, to ask deep soul questions, to let our inner wisdom speak, and to explore how to align our outer lives with our inner truth, together cultivating courage in challenging times.
This workshop is based on the work of Parker J. Palmer and the Center for Courage & Renewal. The Circle of Trust approach, described in Palmer’s book A Hidden Wholeness, focuses on cultivating our inner capacity to live a more authentic, meaningful and engaged life, and to express the deepest values and wisdom of true self in and through our relationships and work.
In our day together, we will
Focus, without distraction, on what deeply matters to us and connect with the guidance of our own inner wisdom
- Clarify our own sense of purpose and integrity, and deepen our courage to live more wholeheartedly
- Gain practical tools to deepen our capacity to create disciplined, safe space, individually and in community
- Practice deep listening and work with honest, open questions to “hear others into deeper speech.”
