This retreat series is grounded in the This retreat series is grounded in the Circles of Trust® approach as described in Parker Palmer’s book, A Hidden Wholeness. This series is intended for anyone who wants to live and work more wholeheartedly.

Since 1997 the Center for Courage & Renewal, through its international network of nearly 300 facilitators, has created a unique retreat-based approach to sustaining and renewing personal identity, professional integrity, and vocational vitality for people in all walks of life, particularly – but not limited to – those in the helping professions.

For teachers, principals and higher education professionals; clergy and lay leaders and others serving spiritual communities; members of the health and healing professions; non-profit and
other community leaders, persons working in business and the arts and anyone who desires to sustain their “courage to serve.” This series of four retreats is designed for both experienced Circle of Trust® participants as well as those who may be attending for the first time.




Meet Your Facilitators

caryl-creswellCaryl Creswell has been involved with Courage & Renewal® work for the past eight years. She is a recorded Quaker pastor and pastored Quaker meetings for thirteen years. She currently attends West Hills Quaker Meeting. For the last 20 years she has worked with children in Godly Play, a religious education program which deeply values the spirituality of children. She is a leader in sharing Godly Play nationally and internationally with children and adults.

Jeff CreswellJeff Creswell has been facilitating Courage & Renewal® retreats since 2000 for clergy and congregational leaders, educators and cross-professional groups. He was a classroom teacher in Portland, Oregon for 32 years and is an educational consultant sharing the Scottish Storyline method with educators.  He is a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where he sings in the choir. He and his wife, Caryl, enjoy spending time with their blended family of eight children and four grandchildren.

Karen NoordhoffKaren Noordhoff has been facilitating Courage & Renewal® offerings since 2000 for educators from PreK-12 and university settings, clergy and congregational leaders, and cross-professional groups. She is a former professor at Portland State University, in Portland, Oregon, with interests in spirituality and education. She and her husband, David, spend time in central Oregon where they walk the labyrinth at their cabin in
the high desert called “The Clearing.” Karen loves cooking, canoeing, cats and is pretty much crazy for anything French.

About Our Venue

AltonCollins3Surrounded by giant fir and cedar, lush fern and abundant moss covered vine maple, the Alton L. Collins Conference & Retreat Center near Eagle Creek, Oregon provides an environment and facilities conducive to study and reflection, relaxation and recreation.  It’s located at 32867 SE Highway 211, Eagle Creek, Oregon.  (Within an an hour’s drive from Mt. Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, & Portland.)

Cost:  $2,950 for four retreats (payments may be made in four installments), $2,650 if paid in full by check, $2,750 if paid in full by credit. Single occupancy may be available for a surcharge of $75 per retreat.

Early Bird: Discount of $50 available if you register by September 1, 2017!

Registration Deadline: Please register by October 1, 2017.

Participation:  Participation is limited to 20 individuals.

Credits: Six graduate credits are available through Portland State University. A portion may be reimbursed through your district.

Cancellations: $100 cancellation fee. Limited scholarship funds are available, contact Caryl, Jeff, or Karen.  Contact information below.
