Based on the Courage to Teach® and Circle of Trust® programs, this professional development opportunity supports the personal and professional renewal of educators, and those in other helping professions.
This professional retreat does not focus on professional techniques or institutional reform. Rather, it supports the renewal of the self-knowledge and emotional intelligence of participants.
The program offers participants opportunities to reflect on the inner dimensions of their professional lives. Up to 30 participants are invited to engage in honest self-reflection and explore questions about purpose, values, and commitment to challenging work. In doing so, participants are invited to increase a capacity to listen to self and others more deeply, to reconnect their inner passion with their outer work, in order to show up more wholeheartedly. Participation is always by invitation and not demand – attendees participate and share according to their own comfort level.
In large group, small group, and solitary reflection, the heart of professional life is explored through the use of stories from our own journeys, reflections on practice, and insights from poets, story-tellers, and diverse wisdom traditions. Participants are invited to speak honestly about their lives and work, and to listen and respond to each other and to themselves with encouragement and compassion.
Mardi Tindal and Michael Saver, skilled facilitators certified by the Center for Courage & Renewal founded by esteemed educator, author and activist Parker J. Palmer, work to create a trustworthy space – a circle of trust – within which participants may explore their deepest wisdom to find courage and renewal for their life and work.
