You give more people great care by building stronger leaders!

A top doctor reveals how your powerful support has a life-giving impact on an amazing number of people. Patrick Herson MD, President of Minneapolis-based Fairview Medical Group, relates how your outreach is delivering real excellence in medical care at more than 40 primary care clinics and hospitals.
This far-reaching impact began when, thanks to you, he had the opportunity to attend the Academy for Leaders at the same time he was promoted into his highly challenging role.

“I remember this image that I was standing at the top of a ten-meter diving platform ready to jump in. The pool itself was bringing my whole self into my leadership role… That Academy for Leaders was so perfectly timed for me in the first six months. Having two book-end retreats was also a perfect way to start, grow into, and get comfortable with that role. It was really important.”

As you continue to enable more and more people like Patrick to develop the courage to truly lead—and spread that gift to others—you will see lasting, tangible results across important fields like healthcare. Relying on your support for the Center for Courage & Renewal, Patrick is working to make his
medical teams the best that they can be.

“What I do is make the conditions right so that the almost 600 doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and midwives who work with us really have the best environment to take care of patients. A lot of it is creating a vision of what that care can look like.”

Patrick says that for one thing, his training with the Center for Courage & Renewal allowed him to give his team more of his time, and give himself more time to consider his own thoughts and ideas.

Patrick encourages staff members to inspire each other, and not just look to clinic leadership for ideas, direction and guidance.

Remembering that one of the Circle of Trust Touchstones is, “When the going gets rough, turn to wonder,” Patrick says, “I see more of that sense of wondering why, more compassionate inquiry instead of reaction and judgment. I hear more people saying, ‘Tell me about why you see this problem this way. Tell me why the solution you’re proposing is a good one.’ It’s allowed us to have some better dialogue around many tough topics, including really challenging strategic issues we were facing recently.”

Patrick continues, “There’s a growing group of people who have been exposed to ideas from Courage & Renewal, and I know medical doctors and clinic administrators have brought it into their work.” Your contribution is spreading benefits to more patients who deserve excellent medical care. Thank you!
