Souls Can Be Silly, Too - Gratitude for Phyllis Diller

Posted August 20, 2012
The soul isn't just serious. It can be silly, irreverent, and laugh-out-loud funny. Grateful for the life of one of the first women comedians who gave us her authentic laughter. Phyllis Diller died today at 95.
Did you know that Phyllis Diller was also an author and a poet? Here is a poem once posted online by a fan, which now seems like a fond farewell from her soul to ours:
My Prayer
On this happy day
We are thankful
For our blessings
And we pray
For renewed belief
In ourselves
And each other
And hope
This bond of love
Will expand
To envelope
The entire universe.

Aug 21 2012 | John Fenner - Souls can be sillyOn a previous NPR interview, Phyllis Diller raised the longevity of other great comedians Bob Hope and George Burns. So it appears that laughter is perhaps the best medicine. It also lifts up one of the great paradoxes of the soul, the seriousness of soul questions like "who am I", "how can I best live my life", and "what is my 'work'?", and the great humor that can come with our human condition. Thanks for lifting Phyllis Diller up Shelly.
