Utne Reader's Visionaries Who are Changing Your World
In its current issue, the Utne Reader names the Center's founder and senior partner, Parker J. Palmer, as one of 25 Visionaries Who are Changing Your World in 2011. About Parker's lifetime of work, Editor David Schimke writes, "Taken in pieces or as a whole, the work rejuvenates and empowers because it encourages both solitary introspection and collective action." That's a great way to capture the pairing of "Courage" and "Renewal."
Congratulations to Parker for this well deserved honor. We at the Center are indeed fortunate for the many years of partnership to put wheels on Parker's ideas through programs and resources that change the world from the inside out.
How has Parker Palmer changed your world?

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not given to false modesty. Truth be told, I am not even given to modesty!
It is simply a fact that I would not have received this recognition from the Utne Reader had it not been for the hard and fruitful work of everyone associated with the Center for Courage & Renewal over the past 15 years.
So my deepest gratitude goes to the staff on Bainbridge Island; our nearly 200 facilitators in this country and abroad; members of the Center's board; the many people who support us with gifts ranging from money to talent to encouragement; and the tens of thousands of participants in our programs who are doing so much life-giving work in so many challenging places.
I'm glad I've been able to spend much of my adult life writing books and essays. But I never forget that there's a big difference between putting good words on paper and putting them into action on the front lines.
I'm proud and deeply honored to be associated with a large community of people who are, in fact, changing the world.
With gratitude,
Parker
